You need to trick the BBc into thinking your PC is in the UK. This is done with a 'proxy' server. You need to configure IE or Firefox to use this server as a kind of stepping stone. It's a bit tricky to set up but there are loads of really good forums with up to date info. This one is pretty easy to follow: seo.seocompany.ca/proxy-setup/

Or if you use Firefox simply use the 'Foxy Proxy' add-on.

How do you use the foxy proxy add-on?

Re:BBc iplayer 3 years ago #123

Hi Jayne,
In FireFox, click on tools then add-ons, find FoxyProxy and install it. You should then see 'FoxyProxy: Disabled' in the bottom right-hand of your page. Now you need to find an 'anonymous' UK proxy, you can do this by searching any of the sites listed by Aunty, or the one I use at the moment www.proxy4free.com/page1.html once you have found a suitable proxy, copy the IP address then click 'FoxyProxy: Disabled' bottom right of page.
Now click 'add new proxy' in the general tab then enter a name for your proxy, something like UK1 will do. Next click Proxy Details and paste the IP address where it says Host, then enter the Port No. and click ok. You will then see this message 'You didn't enter and enable any whitelisted (inclusive) URL patterns. This means the proxy won't be used unless FoxyProxy is set to "Use Proxy df for all URLs". Continue anyway?', click yes. Finally, click on the drag down box which says 'Completely disable FoxyProxy' and choose your proxy for all URL's, Thats it. It may seem a little confusing at first, but it's easy to get the hang of. Now all you need are good UK proxies.
