Hi,
Are there any (free) software programmes I can download which measure and show the broadband signal strength I am receiving?

Hi David
At the bottom of each page here on the website you'll see a link to speedtest.com. Click on that and follow the instructions.
I always use Elda as the server.

for broadband speed use speedtest.net
for signal strength from your wireless router to your laptop/desktop then move your pointer/cursor to your taskbar(usually at the bottom of the screen) and on the right hand side near where it displays the time you should see a little icon that is two computers linked up (a globe between them indicates internet connection), keep your pointer/cursor on that icon for a few seconds and a pop-up will appear showing you your connection info including your wireless signal
xp will say poor, good, very good, excellent.
vista shows 5 bars 1-5 bars light green to indicate the signal quality.
no programs are needed to be downloaded.
hope this helps
