Aunty Virus 15th November 2011

Margaret via email asks:
Hi Aunty. When I go onto the Marks and Spencer website and try to put things in my shopping basket nothing happens! It just says my basket is empty also when I try to go to the next page of items it just fades and will not move on. I had no problems 2 weeks ago when I used it and all the other shopping sites I use are all OK. Any ideas?
Aunty Says:
This could simply be a Flash Player or Java update Margaret.  Go to adobe.com and download the latest Flash Player and to oracle.com and get the latest Java for your computer. If these don’t resolve it then download and run Ccleaner form download.com and let me know how you get on.

Jim via email asks:
Hi Aunty. I have just bought an Acer laptop and being very naive I did not realise that most of the format would be in Spanish. Is there any way this can be converted into English? It has Windows 7 home premium if that helps at all. I would be grateful for any help you may be able to give me.
Aunty Says:
Hello Jim. The safest and most reliable way of doing this is to reinstall Windows with a fresh copy in English. Let me know where you are and I can maybe recommend a reliable company to do it.

David via email asks:
Hola Aunty.  I receive many emails & jokes which I forward to friends & family but  can you tell me how to forward emails without everyone else’s email address going with them?  I'm told it has something to do with Cc & Bcc, but not sure what to do?
Aunty Says:
Hello David. You’re correct with the Cc and Bcc (which indecently stands for Carbon Copy and Blind Carbon Copy) which is a throwback to the days when typists had to pop a sheet of blue carbon paper inbetween sheets in their typewriter. You simply add your chosen email recipient’s address(s) into the Bcc: box, in the same way you would normally in the To: box, and it will appear to each of them that only they received the email. Even addresses in the To: and Cc: list won’t know that the Bcc: recipients were included.

Phil via email asks:
Dear Aunty. I need your help again! I currently have Uniblue Speed Up My PC system which is due for renewal. It operates daily clearing my Junk mail, is there a FREE Download that will do the same, as to pay this amount annually for a system that seems to only clear junk mail is not value for money, or is there another way to clear junk mail?.
Aunty Says:
I don’t rate the Uniblue software and I have found the most reliable way to control spam email is to use the built in spam filter provided by your email provider. I use Gmail but I think all the main email companies have a similar function. Gmail seem to block most spam/junk emails before they reach my inbox, but occasionally I have to manually flag an address as spam and I never hear from them again. If you don’t see a smap button then you may need to look under the ‘options’ or ‘settings’ link once you have logged in.

Norman from La Marina asks:
Our Lexmark Z53 printer is now a discontinued model and worked OK with our old PC and Word 2010, and we had no problems installing it with the Lexmark CD provided.  Now we have updated to a modern HP Pavilion laptop with Win7 but we are unable to get the printer installed plus the laptop won’t even read the Lexmark CD!  The internet café we use have told us it should be possible to find a website with the correct printer drivers and obtain it for free, but so far after 3 attempts we still cannot find a free one.
Aunty Says:
From what I gather on their website Norman there doesn’t seem to be a driver for Windows7 or Vista. If Windows7 doesn’t have any pre installed drivers (automatically installed when you plug the printer in) you may be better investing €40 in a new printer.

Mike via email asks:
Hi Aunty. I follow your page when I can. I live in Spain and have a Spanish bank account but I can’t speak or read Spanish. My problem is any ebay.co.uk or Paypal transactions always comes through in Spanish, and the same with iTunes. I have tried to contact all concerned but no joy.
Aunty Says:
I know Paypal can be a bit awkward to setup with a Spainish bank account but there is a setting when you create a new account to say you are in Spain but you’d like everything in English. Go to the ‘Crear cuenta’ link at the top of the homepage and you should see a drop down list for ‘Su pais’ which will need to be ‘España’ and ‘Su idioma’ change to English. I had major problems as I had a UK bank account so I ended up opening a Spanish account just for my Ebay, Paypal and Amazon transactions. You can sometimes force websites to show in English by using a .co.uk extension (instead of .com) or change your regional settings in ‘control panel’ to the UK.
